How to Find Bonus Boards Efficiently

Method 1: Explore naturally Boards appear on your map as purple "H" icons when you drive near them. A Treasure Map DLC ($2.99) marks all of them instantly.

Method 2: Use our interactive map Visit our interactive Japan map and filter by "Bonus Boards" to see all locations.

Method 3: Region-by-region sweep The most efficient approach — pick a region and systematically cover every road. Boards are usually:

  • At T-intersections and dead ends
  • Along highway service roads
  • Behind buildings in urban areas
  • Near landmarks and scenic overlooks
  • On off-road trails and farm roads

Efficient Farming Routes

The Highway Loop (60 boards, ~45 minutes): Start at Osaka Bay, take the Tomei Expressway east → Kyoto bypass → Central Highway → Tokyo loop → return via the coastal route. Stop at every service area and interchange — boards are almost always at the merge points.

The Touge Run (40 boards, ~30 minutes): Start at Hakone → mountain passes toward Mount Fuji → Central Highlands → descend toward Kyoto. Every hairpin turn typically hides a board.

The Urban Sweep (50 boards, ~40 minutes): Systematically cover Osaka → Kyoto → Nara → Kobe → Tokyo. Focus on back alleys and dead-end streets that don't appear on the main map zoom level.

Fast Travel Strategy

Don't buy the Fast Travel Anywhere upgrade (500k credits) until you've smashed at least 100 boards. At 50% discount it costs 250k, and if you're going for all 200 anyway, the free fast travel makes the purchase a waste.

Order of operations:

  1. Smash boards as you explore naturally (first 20-30 hours)
  2. Once you hit ~100 boards, start actively hunting the rest
  3. Use the fast travel you already unlocked at 50% off to jump between regions
  4. Finish all 200 → enjoy free fast travel forever

Achievement

Smashing all 200 Bonus Boards unlocks the "A Few Splinters Is Nothing!" achievement (10 Gamerscore / Bronze).
