FH6 Driving Assists Guide — Which Settings to Use

Getting your driving assists right is the single fastest way to improve in Forza Horizon 6. The right settings balance speed and stability based on your skill level.

Recommended Configurations

Beginner (Focus on fun, learning tracks)

ABS: ON
Traction Control: ON
Stability Control: ON
Steering: Normal
Braking: Assisted
Transmission: Automatic
Driving Line: Full
Rewind: ON

Why: These settings let you focus on learning tracks and having fun. The game handles the complex inputs.

Expected lap time penalty vs no assists: ~15-20% slower

Intermediate (Building speed)

ABS: ON
Traction Control: ON → OFF (try OFF)
Stability Control: OFF
Steering: Simulation
Braking: OFF
Transmission: Manual
Driving Line: Full
Rewind: ON

Why: Turn off stability control first — it slows you down the most. Then try manual shifting. You'll be 5-10% faster immediately.

Expert (Maximum speed)

ABS: OFF
Traction Control: OFF
Stability Control: OFF
Steering: Simulation
Braking: OFF
Transmission: Manual + Clutch
Driving Line: Only corners
Rewind: OFF (personal preference)

Why: No assists means full control. ABS off allows trail braking. TCS off enables power sliding. Manual+Clutch gives fastest shift times.

How Much Faster Are No Assists?

On a typical 3-minute circuit:

ConfigurationLap TimeImprovement
All assists on, auto3:00.00Baseline
TCS+SCS off, manual2:45.00-15s (8.3%)
ABS off, manual+clutch2:40.00-20s (11.1%)
All off, manual+clutch, pro lines2:35.00-25s (13.8%)

The biggest single improvement: Turning off TCS + SCS + switching to Manual

Assist-Specific Tips

ABS ON → OFF:

  • Learn to brake progressively (squeeze, don't slam)
  • Trail braking (braking while turning) becomes possible
  • Practice on a track you know well first

TCS ON → OFF:

  • Be gentle on the throttle out of corners
  • Feather the trigger/pedal instead of mashing it
  • AWD cars are more forgiving for TCS-off learning

Auto → Manual:

  • Learn to listen to the engine for shift points
  • Start on a track with long straights
  • Practice downshifting before corners for engine braking

Manual → Manual+Clutch:

  • Map clutch to LB/L1 or L3 for easier access
  • Only use clutch for standing starts and hairpins initially
  • The speed gain is ~2-3% over standard manual

How to Practice

  1. Pick a track you know well (Osaka Bay circuit is great)
  2. Turn OFF one assist at a time, not all at once
  3. Do 5 laps with the new setting before judging it
  4. Use Rivals mode to compare against your ghost
